Fujitsu introduces the M2513A, the worlds first 640MB ISO
standard magneto-optical disk drive (MO), which is designed for
integration into desktop PCs, workstations, subsystems or
jukeboxes.
The MO cartridge is approximately the same size as an existing 3.5-inch floppy disk but stores 440 times their capacity. This is the equivalent capacity of a CD-ROM; however, the MO can be rewritten an unlimited number of times whilst the CD-ROM is limited to only reading data. Furthermore, unlike other magnetic media, MO disks are not affected by physical shock or magnetic fields.
The M2513A also offers excellent performance with a 35ms seek time backed up by 512KB buffer size. This makes it an ideal removable storage device not only for distributing huge volumes of data instead of CD-ROMs or backing up important data instead of tape drives but for more data intensive, capacity hungry multimedia applications, including working with movie, graphic, photographic and sound files.
