Installation direction
The drive may be installed either PCA up or on edge. Inclination from vertical should be less than 10°.
Mounting screws
Either side or underside mounting may be used. Standard drive use M3 screws but some special models and US versions use #32 UNC. Screws should not protrude from the drive frame by more than 3mm or damage may occur.
Frame clearance
There should be a gap of at least 1.5mm between the drive and the system mounting frame on all sides to provide adequate space for shock protection.
Cooling
The environment in which these drives are installed must comply with the requirements defined in the physical specifications. The ambient temperature is measured 3cm. from the base surface and 3cm. from the PCA surface of the drive. Considering surface temperature during operation, the contact temperature at each measurement point must not exceed the following maxima :
Measurement point Maximum surface temperature
Inside optical cartridge 55°C
Digital Signal Processor (DSP) 75°C
Read Amplifier (IC) 75°C
Air purity
Air purity in the device environment is expressed by the number of dust particles per unit area and must be Class 500 Million or less (Class 500 Million = 500 million dust particles of 0.5µm diameter or larger per cubic foot). To achieve this, a fan and filter is recommended for a general office environment. The head and disk should be cleaned every three months if the air purity is about Class 500 Million. If a filter is not used then the drive and disk will require more frequent cleaning. A double shuttered bezel is available that will protect the optics from dust and will lengthen the periods between cleaning.
Schematics for External Operator Panel (not supplied)
Notes :
CTGIN : This signal indicates the presence of a cartridge in the drive. HIGH = IN, LOW = OUT
EJSW : This signal is used for ejecting the cartridge and should be connected to a momentary switch. This function may disabled by software.
LED : Current = 20mA.
