Fujitsu offers the worlds first 17mm high 230MB magneto-optical disk drive (MO), the M2541B. It is specially designed and suited for integration into notebook computers as it features the industrys first implementation of the Enhanced IDE interface and overwrite technology. As more data is required for notebook users, such as when on business trips, the more difficult it is to store all the necessary data onto a hard disk with limited capacity. The MO disk, whilst being approximately the same size as a conventional floppy disk, has 160 times the data capacity of that medium and offers unlimited capacity through its ability to be exchanged at will with other MO disks. The disks themselves are incredibly reliable because they are not affected by magnetic fields or physical shock.

With such superior characteristics and a remarkably low 17mm in height, the M2541B can be designated as the internal storage device for notebook computers, potentially replacing the existing floppy disk. It also warrants itself for design in as the removable storage device that fits in the expansion bay of popular notebook type computers.
