Fujitsu M2483B /K /N, M2485B /K /N: About...
Setting a new level of 3480/3490 compatibility, Fujitsu's M2483/M2485 half-inch cartridge tape drives offer this leading mainframe technology for data interchange and backup to workstations and other advanced computer platforms. The M2483 (for rack mounting) and M2485 (desktop version) come with an embedded SCSI-2 interface controller, providing easy system integration. These drives offer a data transfer rate of up to 3.0 megabytes per second. Coupled with being built at Fujitsu's modern manufacturing facility and with the company's ongoing goals in the development of quality storage products, the M2483 and M2485 offer superior performance and exceptional reliability in data interchange and backup.
SMALL SIZE FOR EASY INSTALLATION
The M2483 has an embedded SCSI-2 interface controller, reducing the subsystem's size to 127mm high, 217mm wide and 400mm deep (5 inches high, 8.5 inches wide, and 15.7 inches deep), significantly smaller than most of its counterparts. The M2483's eight-inch form factor allows easy, space-saving integration into industry-standard 19-inch racks. The completely self-contained M2483 has a small footprint of only 222mm by 650mm (11.1 inches by 25.6 inches, with automatic cartridge loader), and is well suited for a convenient desktop configuration.
HIGH PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY
The M2483 and M2485, with 2 megabyte buffers can attain a continuous stream of data input/output which offers a sustained data transfer rate of 3.0 megabytes per second in the synchronous mode. These cartridge tape drives are supported by Fujitsu's enhanced data recording capability (EDRC), the data recording method compatible with IBM's improved data recording capability (IDRC).
36-TRACK RECORDING
Adopting a 36 track bi-directional recording format, the M2483K and M2485K series double the storage capacity provided by the 18 track recording format. In addition to the high storage capacity, the 36 track recording format substantially saves rewinding time when reading or writing full data cartridges.
With an automatic cartridge loader, the M2483 and M2485 support both five and ten-cartridge magazines for more than two gigabytes of storage capacity per magazine. Furthermore, Fujitsu provides Flush Mount automatic cartridge loader for the M2483, which realises automatic sequential processing of up to 7 cartridges in a magazine. The magazine of the Flush Mount automatic cartridge loader is fixed, instead the internal feeder moves up and down to load or unload the cartridge into or from the tape drive. This contributes greatly to a vertical space saving.
Fujitsu's advanced LSI technology has resulted in a streamlined design and simplified tape path, contributing to their high reliability. In fact, the mean time between failure (MTBF) rating of these drives is more than 30,000 hours, among the highest in its class.
