The MO cartridge is approximately the same size as an existing 3.5" floppy disk but stores 440 times their capacity. This is the equivalent capacity to a CD-ROM, however, the MO can written to an almost unlimited number of times whilst CD-ROMs are limited to only reading stored data. Unlike conventional magnetic media such as hard disks, MO cartridges are less likely to be affected by physical shock and are totally unaffected by magnetic fields in a normal environment.

The M2513A offers excellent performance with an approximate 35 millisecond average seek time to data, which can be further enhanced when the generous 512K buffer is actively used. The robustness of the media makes this device the ideal solution for not only distributing large amounts of data in place of CD-ROM but for backing up important data instead of to tape. The capacity lends itself favourably to data-intensive, capacity hungry multimedia applications such as video, graphic, photographic and sound files.
