Asked Questions : Printers |
The print job you have just sent is formatted for a different size of paper than currently loaded in the printer. The printer is most often set to A4 and the default page format of most software packages is Letter. Pressing the Ready button will allow your job to print. Reset the defaults in your software packages to suit the paper used in the printer, another option would be to set the printer Auto Continue mode in the Config menu to ON - this will flash the error message as before but after a delay will continue to print the job: this may be more useful in the network environment so that other users jobs are not held up for the sake of one users incorrectly formatted document
Mainly affects users with more modern mother boards. Try changing the bios settings for the parallel port on the PC i.e. SPP,ECP,EPP. Suggest that SPP is the best setting. Microsoft acknowledge there is a problem with Windows 95 in this area. in fact they supply an alternate lpt.vxd file on the Windows 95 cd to address this problem See quote below from Microsoft "There is an alternate Lpt.vxd file that resolves the following problems:
The alternate Lpt.vxd file is located in the Drivers\Printers\Lpt folder on the Windows 95 CD-ROM. This file is now also supplied as part of the Windows 95 service packs. To install the alternate Lpt.vxd file, follow these steps:
Note that the alternate Lpt.vxd file has the same file size and date as the original file. The version number of the alternate Lpt.vxd file is 4.00.503. You can determine the version number by using the right mouse button to click the Lpt.vxd file, and then clicking Properties on the menu that appears."
During the Add Printer sequence under windows 95 you may be prompted for your Windows 95 CD-ROM or a floppy disk, if you installed from Win95 from floppies, Windows is looking for the file ICONLIB.DLL. If you do not have the disks available at this point, no problem, since this file is in fact already on your system, the driver offers you a browse window to find the file yourself, simply point the browser at that file in your C:\windows\system directory
This only applies to early models of these printers, but check the following : open the rear door of the printer, you will see a black plastic door with a label marked Open/Lock. This door allows jammed paper to be cleared, but it must be in the locked position for the printer to work, the best method is to lift the door to the unlock position and then press it firmly down to re-lock it.

Later versions of these network interfaces have introduced a higher speed method of talking to the centronics port, either reduce the port speed within the interface box or disable the bi-directional use of the centronics port (via the network interface boxes setup software)
The printer has no means of reporting a syntax error in your escape codes, it only has two options either print nothing or print out the data as received i.e. as text. Please check carefully the codes you are sending by putting the printer into Hex Dump mode, many systems may/will apply a translation between your application and the printer such that the escape code is no longer valid data. The Hex Dump will show you exactly what codes the printer is receiving, they may not be what you think is being sent. Barcode Printing manual
Any Windows driver which refers to the DL model number will have been written to use the Fujitsu DPL24C emulation. please check your printer is not set to one of the alternate emulations i.e. Epson LQ or IBM proprinter. First, confirm you have the correct paper size set within the printer. Check within the printer setup mode the CONFIG menu, parameter TEARPOS, this has two possible settings VISIBLE and ALWAYS. The correct setting depends on how your software drives the printer, if at the end of a print job the paper is normally positioned at the next top of form position you should select VISIBLE but if your software leaves the print head in the middle of a page at the end of the line last printed then select ALWAYS.
Almost certainly the printer is in manual feed mode, check for both ASF 1 & ASF 2 lights are on, if they are then you are in manual mode. Press LOCAL button then press the PAPER button until just the ASF 1 light is on.
