1. Prior to installation, check the firmware
revision of the Ethernet card (CA02417-C871), The rom
label should read "MULTI V1.4...."
2. Install Ethernet Card into Printer, if you are not
sure of the state of the card i.e. its been used in
another printer before or not , please perform the
board reset operation detailed later.
3. Log on to the Network ( as a supervisor )
4. Run EBLIST from the floppy supplied with Ethernet
card. Download EBTOOLS.ZIP if floppy not
available.
5. Should see a display similar to below.
Microsoft(R)
Windows 95
(C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1981-1995.
\WINDOWS>a:
\>eblist
Name : Port name : Owner

6. Confirm that the printer displayed is the one you
are interested in by powering it off and it will
disappear from the list above, power it on and it
will reappear. ( re-run EBLIST each time ).
7. Note the File Server can take a couple of minutes
to register connection & disconnection of the
printer.
8. You may now wish to set the name of the printer to
conform to your local naming conventions. If not go
to step 12
9. Run EBCONFIG xxxx where xxxx is the name of the
printer as listed when running EBLIST. This will
connect with the printer and show the following
display

10. To change the Printers Name type SET
MACHINE_NAME=yyyy where yyyy is the new name to be
assigned to the printer
11. To change the Port Name type SET PORT_NAME=zzzz
where zzzz is the new port name.
Note: It is the port name that will later be used in
PCONSOLE to identify the printer
12. Type SHOW ALL, this will give a display similar
to below, confirm the changes you required have taken
place

13. Cycle the printer power to enable changes to be
registered by the network (may take a couple of
minutes)
14. Type EBLIST again to confirm the printer is
responding & visible to the network. There is no
point in continuing past the point if the printer
does not show up when using the EBLIST command.
15. Ensure you are logged in to Netware as THE
Supervisor ( not a Supervisor equivalent !).
Create a Print Queue
1. Now start PCONSOLE
2. Select "Print Queue Information"
3. When the existing Queue list is displayed, press
INSERT, and enter a name for the new Queue.
4. Once the new queue name appears in the queue list,
press enter, then select "Queue Servers".
Then press Insert to choose the Print Server to
service this queue.
Define the Printer
1. Move back to the top level PCONSOLE menu and
select "Print Server Information"
2. Move to and select the Server entry which you have
chosen to service this printer.
3. Select "Print Server Configuration" then
"Printer Configuration". Move to the next
blank/free entry in the "Configured
Printers" list, press enter to edit the printer
information.
4. At the "Name :" prompt enter the Port
Name as defined in step x
5. At the "Type :" prompt press Enter, from
the resulting list box select "Remote Parallel,
LPT1", press ESC and remember to save the
changes.
Make the link between Server & Queue
1. Select "Print Server Configuration",
select the relevant server Select "Print Server
Status/Control"
2. Move to "Queue serviced by printer",
Move to name of printer being installed, press Enter,
Press Insert and select the queue name to be serviced
by this printer ( See : Create Print Queue above )
Restart the Print Server
1. Select "Print Server Configuration",
select the relevant server Select "Print Server
Status/Control".
2. Select "Server Info"
3. Change the "Current Server Status" from
running to down, Reboot/Restart PC running the Print
Server.
You will need to be a valid Print Server
Operator to restart the server, Being a true
Supervisor would normally give you these rights.
Perform Test print
1. Move to top level of PCONSOLE menus, select
"Print Queue Information", move to the new
queue name created above, press enter, move to
Current Print job Entries, press Enter, The contents
of the queue should be empty at this point, press
Insert, now change directory to find a suitable text
file for printing.
Direct printer drivers to print queue
1. Within Windows install the relevant print driver
and direct its output to the Queue name defined above
The Print Partner should now be ready to
print !

Resetting the Ethernet B board
Set dip switch 2 on the Ethernet board to the on
position, install board into printer, power on ,
allow printer to come ready. Switch off printer,
remove board and set switch 2 back to the off
position, re-install board
Notes & Caveats
1. Be sure to match the frame type set on the
Ethernet B board to that in use on the system i.e.
nw_packet.
2. Remember Netware can take a while to
register any changes to the system, so changes may
not be immediately apparent on the system. Cycle the
printer power to cause it to re-log on to the
network.
3. When the printer is powered on it attempts
to connect to a Netware server, if the connection
fails at that time the board will switch to its
TCP/IP mode which will also fail. Cycle the printer
power to restart this connection search loop.
4. EBCONFIG can only talk to printers on the
same physical server you are logged into.
5. Green Led on Ethernet card only indicates
10Base 2 traffic
6. NLM always refers to Port Name of Ethernet
card not Machine name
7. Despite being connected via Ethernet board,
always configure printer as "Remote Parallel
Lpt1" in PCONSOLE
8. Always ensure the frame type in use on the
system matches the frame type that the board is set
to.
9. If setting up the printer in PSERVER mode,
you will need to enter the following command at the
File Server console "SET ALLOW UNENCRYPTED
PASSWORDS=ON". The printer/server will be unable
to log on to the File Server otherwise.
10. If you suffer from intermittent printer
hangs when printing from NetWare 3.x try setting the
nw_timeout parameter within the printer setup
(EBCONFIG) to a value of 60 rather than the default
of 10.
11. Remember, all this configuration has been
to identify the Ethernet interface NOT the printer
itself to the network. So if you have to swap out the
printer for some reason it is simpler to ensure that
the Ethernet interface from the original printer is
installed into the new printer, otherwise you will
have to go through the EBLIST / EBCONFIG loop again
to rename the new board so that Netware can still see
it.
