Care of Your Fujitsu Disk Drive
Careful handling of your disk drive is paramount to the longevity of the unit. Serious damage can occur to the internal mechanisms should forces outside the environmental specifications be exerted to the casing. In transportation, always use the original packing in which the drive was supplied and avoid sharp changes in temperature to minimise the risk of condensation.

Never move the disk drive while the disks are spinning. This is when the drive is powered on and also immediately after power off. Refer to the Start/Stop specification for your drive to determine the length of time that this may be.

Always power the drive down before connecting or disconnecting the interface cable. The same applies to changing any of the switch or terminal settings except for the write protection switch/terminal which is present on all drives and the self-diagnostics switch/terminal which is a feature of all SCSI drives.

Never place the drive in the vicinity of strong magnetic fields such as monitors, televisions, or loudspeakers.

Never use any cleaning agents or liquids on the drive.

Always use an antistatic mat and wrist strap when handling the drive. Hold the drive by the mounting frame and never touch the components on the PCA, except when changing the switch settings

Never remove any labels from the drive and do not deface them in any way; they are part of the disk drive design.

Never open the disk enclosure for any reason. There are no serviceable parts inside. This will also invalidate any warranty.

Always pay close attention to the mounting specificatons for each drive checking for sway space and cooling and to ensure that the rubber shock mounts are effective. If the temperature difference between installation locations is more than 10 degrees C then leave the drive in the new location for at least two hours to acclimatise.
